Antivirus for Windows Server 2008

    Question

  •

I'm looking for an antivirus software to run on Windows 2008 Server 64-bit.  Does anyone have any recommendations?  We've tried Symantec, but their scan engine is still in 32-bit and causes huge performance problems for terminal services users.

  • Hi Dave,

You can use the antivirus software “Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Server Enterprise Edition”. It is fully compatible with Windows Server 2008 x64. It has earned the Windows Server 2008 software certification.

Please refer the following links for more details

For more information regarding “Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0” ,  you may need to contact Kaspersky itself.

    Hope it helps.

  • Thanks Leena, but we're looking for one that has a 64-bit scan engine.  Kaspersky's engine is still a 32-bit app, same as Symantec.  The only one we've found so far is Outpost, but it's very tough to find any reviews on it.

If the engine isn't compiled as a 64-bit app, we're finding that login times and/or overall performance degrade to the point of being unacceptable when run over Microsoft Terminal Services.

  • Hi Dave,

We've just run into the same performance issues with symantec on 64-bit Server 2008, and are now looking for new AV.  Did you find another AV solution besides Outpost?

    Thanks,
    Ed

  • Hi Belldingers,

Hope you are following the Microsoft recommendation for scanning Windows Server 2008. Moreover I was wondering if you have IA-64 processor, the reason being :-

    Notes:

    • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 is supported by Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Server Enterprise Edition, version 6.0.1.511 and higher
    • Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Servers does not support IA-64 (Itanium) Processors

More information regarding both the issue can be found at:-

Moreover I also saw some information regarding the Quick Heal AV, here's the link to get detailed information:-

    Hope above information helps !

    Thanks,
