attempting to load a 64 bit application however this CPU is not compatible with 64 bit mode

    Question

  • I want to install Windows 7 64 bit on Virtual PC. I tried using Virtual PC 2007 and also tried to install it on Windows server 2008 64 bit using Microsoft Virtual Server.

In both cases installation completes without error, but when i try to start the virtual machine i get following error

  • The only way that I have found to run a 64bit virtual machine on window 7 x64 is virtual box, I am assuming the latest vmware player would also do it, but I think the base OS needs to be x64.

  • What is not true, I have several windows 2008 r2 (only x64) virtual machines running in Oracle Virtual Box on Windows 7 x64.

Virtual PC does not support x64 clients OS.

  • Check if your base OS runs on 64-bit. Start > Control Panel > System. It should look have System Type: 64-bit Operating System. In addition, enable Visualization in BIOS.

  •  enable Visualization in BIOS.

LOL - I would recommend "virtualization" but not visualization :-) :-)  Mr. "IT  Administrator" :-)
