Virtual Desktop Manager

    Question

  •

I am new to this version of vitural desktop manager, I used to use a different one, and I would like to share one or two programs on all screens. I don't want to share all the programs. Is this possible.

  • The XP Power Toys are (unsupported and) designed specifically for Windows XP, are not tested on Windows Vista, and are likely not to work on Vista.  It even says so on the xppowertoys.mspx page you referenced. :-)

  • To what virtual desktop manager are you referring?  I think you're talking about a utility that is made by someone other than Microsoft -- I don't recall Microsoft making a multi-desktop utility.  (There was an MSDN sample, desktops.exe, many years ago, but I don't think that's what you're talking about.)  Or are you referring to Windows' built-in capability to handle multi-monitors?

  • Actullay this is for XP and the link is here http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx and on the left hand side you will see a download of the virtual desktop

    Virtual Desktop Manager

    Deskman.exe
    550 KB 3 min @ 28.8 Kbps

This is the one I am referring about.

  • There is a number of virtual desktop managers on download.com

Many of them work fine on Vista

  • I've downloaded and apparently successfully installed the virtual desktop manager powertoy on XP. But I don't see it in the taskbar. How do I make it appear?

  • I've discovered the answer, after some intense random exploration. Right click on the toolbar, then expand the first ("Toolbars") menu item that appears. Desktop Manager is one of the checkable options. I feel like a hacker now.
