what are the default permissions for folders within c:\programdata

    Question

  • Hi

I'm not a Dev but this seems to be the most appropriate place for this question... as i see many of you have issues with this stuff when coding..

Basically i just want to know why for one of my Terminal Serveers, some subfolders under c:\programdata have Everyone access to TraverseFolder, ListFolder, ReadAttributes, ReadExtendedAttributes.

I'd like to know whether this is set by the installer of the software, whether maybe someone did this manually? or whether maybe it is set by some feature of Terminal Services...

    THE DETAILS:

on one of my servers,  for the c:\programdata folder i have the permissions

    • creatorowner: special
    • system: full control
    • administrators: full control
    • users: read&execute, ListFolderContents, Read

but on some subfolders the Everyone object has various permissions.

e.g. in one subfolder folder of c:\programdata\Adobe i have:

    • Everyone: TraverseFolder, ListFolder, ReadAttributes, ReadExtendedAttributes
    • creatorowner: special
    • system: full control
    • administrators: full control
    • users: read&execute, ListFolderContents, Read

So from reading around a few threads, it seems to be that the permission i see at c:\programdata are the correct default permissions. Further (again from threads on this forum) it looks like the only way that permissions can be set differently on subfolders is if this is set by the installer at the time of installation....

So can anyone tell me what is the likely cause of these settings?
