Signing usbser.sys driver for Windows 8?

    Question

  • We have previously performed driver certification for one of our products which uses the usbser.sys driver. Currently it is signed for Win XP, Vista and Windows 7. Is it necessary to re-certify it to include Windows 8? I tried installing it on Windows 8 and did not receive any warning messages so I wonder if it's really necessary to submit a new test and get it signed by Microsoft?

Couldn't find any useful info on the website so please share if you have a link which answers the question above.

    Thanks!

  • Hello,

The driver will install on Win 8 without receiving any pop up warnings, but the driver will not qualify to be used in any Win 8 systems qualifying for a Windows 8 system certification status. In order for a systems submitter to submit for a system certification the drivers are required to be signed for the OS being submitted.

So if you need to distribute the driver to system builders who will certify their systems its required to be Microsoft digitally signed for Win 8.
