Compatibility of Visual Basic 6.0 Desktop application on Windows 8

    Question

  • We have a Visual Basic 6.0 Desktop application which runs on Windows 7. And we tested this VB6.0 application on Windows 8 Developer preview and it works. But we haven't ran all the regression test to test the compatibility.

So, what is the compatibility of this VB6.0 application on Windows 8 OS?

Can I certify the compatibility of this VB6.0 application for the actual release of Windows 8 environment?

Answers

  • Not, we cannot. Since this Windows 8 is a developer preview, and we will make many changes, bug fix in the next Beta version, RC version and RTM version. So it is hard to say your VB6.0 is compatibility for the Windows 8.

And it is too early to test any program compatibility on the Windows 8, Microsoft official does not provide any tool and document about the Windows 8 Software logo certification, so, please wait, it will come.

  • Hi Bob,

MS has any plan on removing any feature available on Win8 Dev Preview?

If our VB6.0 application works on Win8 Developer preview, then will it work on the final release?

    Thanks Bob.

  • Still not find any messages about it, We could wait for it.

"If our VB6.0 application works on Win8 Developer preview, then will it work on the final release?"  Please wait to test it on the Beta version, then we can say it can run in the final version.
