nslookup does not use IP address from hosts file on xp

    Question

  • I added an IP address in the hosts file for a domain name.  nslookup does not pick up the IP from the hosts file first.  It instead goes to the DNS Server.  However ping reaches out to the IP address from the hosts file.  Here are the commands and output from the windows cmd box:

    Does anybody know why?

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc>find "fortunatetrading" Hosts

    ---------- HOSTS
    107.16.36.24 www.fortunatetrading.com

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc>nslookup www.fortunatetrading.com
    Server:  hsnaaxpns01.xintuti.com
    Address:  176.131.232.167
