    Question

  • I have downloaded msdnen.gadget on my Windows7 machine. I did so by following a link on a reply that I got in a Visual Studio forum. The instructions said to double-click the gadget file. When I do the OS tells me this is an unkown file type and I need to choose a program that knows how to open the file! Nothing on the download page to help me with that.

The only information I can find on-line tells me that this is a file type that "Windows" handles. So now what?

  • Someone showed me what was wrong. On my machine "Windows gadgets platform" was not enabled. I went to the control panel/programs and features. On the left pane was a "Turn windows features on or off". I selected that and then enabled gadgets. After that, the install dialog opened when I double clicked the .gadget file and it installed.
