Image url as part of the meta data of a web result

    Question

  • Perhaps I've missed something, but I don't see any image url as part of the meta data of a web result. Are there any plans to include image results as part of the returned data?

I am not referring to the ability to query for Images and get image results returned, I am speaking specifically about Image or Thumb Urls being returned as part of a Web result.

    Thanks.

  • I don't know why Jambor Yao's response got marked as the answer. His reply does not answer the question. I'm assuming the correct answer then should be "No, there is no way to get an imgUrl or thumbUrl as part of a WebResult. We also do not know of any plans on the roadmap to offer such an imgUrl or thumbUrl field as part of a WebResult."

  • Hi,

In Windows Azure Marketplace, which data are you use?  If this data didn’t support include image results as part of the returned data, I recommend you to give them feedback. If you use Bing Search API, Refer to the following sample code.

http://sdrv.ms/GEzQ0a (in default class define you account key)

If I misunderstand, feel free to let me know.

    Best Regards

  • So I'm making a request with the requested source as "web":

     Sources: "web"

And I get something back that looks like this:

    [ { __metadata:
         { uri: 'https://api.datamarket.azure.com/Data.ashx/Bing/Search/v1/ExpandableSearchResultSet(guid\'c0d77477-fc56-490e-a858-50ee61197376\')/Web?$skip=0&$top=1',
           type: 'WebResult' },
        ID: 'ff8bd6db-eef9-4b2e-a649-972da5c8671c',
        Title: '<b>ADELE</b>',
Description: 'Official website for <b>Adele</b> ... 14 February 12. 5 was my favourite number but now it\'s 6. Oh goodness!! I’m absoloutly flabbergasted!',
        DisplayUrl: 'www.<b>adele</b>.tv',
        Url: 'http://www.adele.tv/' },
      { __metadata:
         { uri: 'https://api.datamarket.azure.com/Data.ashx/Bing/Search/v1/ExpandableSearchResultSet(guid\'c0d77477-fc56-490e-a858-50ee61197376\')/Web?$skip=1&$top=1',
           type: 'WebResult' },
        ID: '202fb5e3-2929-48f6-9918-d745b04771c9',
Title: '<b>Adele</b> - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia',
Description: '<b>Adele</b> Laurie Blue Adkins MBE (born 5 May 1988), better known simply as <b>Adele</b>, is an English singer, songwriter, musician, and multi-instrumentalist. <b>Adele</b> was offered ...',
        DisplayUrl: 'en.wikipedia.org/wiki/<b>Adele</b>_(singer)',
        Url: 'http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adele_(singer)' } ]

So there are certain properties that get returned per each Web result, such as Title, Description, Url, DisplayUrl. But what I do not see is an ImageUrl or ThumbUrl that is part of each Web result metadata. I know the Bing scrapers are logging image information as they visit the sites out there on the internet, and it would be nice if they exposed this information as part of the web results.

I DO NOT want to do something like this:

     Sources: "web+image"

I don't want Image results as a separate set of result entities.

I am wondering if there is anything on the roadmap to provide the image urls as part of the web results metadata.

  • Hi,

From my experience, the Bing Search API only return ID, Title, Description, DisplayUrl, Url. Refer to the following screenshot.

If we want to include image results as part of the returned data, I recommend to create a function to do this by ourselves.

    Best Regards
