How Can I Change Country/Location Selection ? Is this related to where you are located, or the market you are focusing on?

    Question

  • Hello,

I just joined Windows Azure Marketplace in order to promote my websites. I later realized that the placing of a country/location on the original application implied several limitations.

Since my websites are mostly aimed at the USA, Canada, United Kingdom, and Australian markets, I now feel that I should have selected a different country/location on my original application form.  I also feel that this should be clearly explained on the form before people commit to one specific location.

Nowadays, many people are working in one market, but residing in a completely different location, and, often, moving from one location to another. So, should one enter the country/location where one resides, or the one of the market one is focusing on?

I have tried to find information regarding this concern, but fail to find any clear indications.

I did find out the there is a way to change this under certain circumstances, but no information as to how to go about it.

I would appreciate some clear guidance.

  • You can change your residence location here: https://datamarket.azure.com/account

However, two conditions should be followed:

    1. Your residence location should match your Microsoft Account (formerly known Live ID) location.

    2. You will need to cancel all your existing subscriptions.

The second condition is a bit painful, but since providers limit their offers availability to certain locations, we cannot allow you to change without canceling subscriptions first.

    Thanks,

  • Hi xavvyvar,

Do you mean get local country/location data from Windows Azure Marketplace data?

If so, from my experience, the important parameter is country/location (use this to fetch the useful data), I recommend you to use HTML5 Geolocation, refer to http://www.w3schools.com/html/html5_geolocation.asp for more information, about Easiest way to get city name using geolocation, I suggest you to take a look at this thread (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6797569/easiest-way-to-get-city-name-using-geolocation ), if I misunderstand you, please feel free to let me know.

    Best Regards
