Specific Bing Images Get Replaced?

    Question

  • Hello,

From the Bing Image API, I received a URL to an image a week ago: http://ts4.mm.bing.net/th?id=H.4698785410580735

When I check out that image this week, the image isn't available anymore and instead there's a camera with a slash through it.

Does that mean that the site that was the source for that image asked Bing to remove it from their API?

    Thanks for the explanation!

  • Hi,

I think yes. You can search it again to see if it is there or not.

    Thanks,

  • Thank you for the answer.  Do you know why the image changed?  Why do images in the Bing API change to this image of a camera that indicates "no photo".

I have now found a bunch more images that have changed from their original photo to this same image of a camera with a slash in it.  This is what this new image looks like: http://ts4.mm.bing.net/th?id=H.4698785410580735

Is there a way to check in the Bing Image API if an image has been taken down or replaced with this placeholder image of a camera?

  • Hi,

As I know there is no way to do such checking process. Actually you can search some other popular image to see if api works. If other images are shown correctly. it means the search api works well and the only possibility is the original image has been removed or cannot be access any more from its resource site. You can use Service Explorer of Bing search to test the result: https://datamarket.azure.com/dataset/explore/bing/search (select "Image" type at the bottom)

    Thanks,
