Questions on Windows Store application targeting

    Pregunta

  • 1. If a particular app requires a certain HW feature (examples: a sensor, a specific IHV printer), does that app always remain visible on Windows Store even if the user's system doesn't have the corresponding device installed?  If yes, can the app be downloaded/installed?

    2. I had understood that there were mechanisms for OEM's to have unique apps targeted for only their platforms.  How does the Store handle this (I assume, for example, Dell's unique apps would be visable only on a Dell machine and not an HP machine)?  What mechanism is used to facilitate this targeting?  Is it some SMBIOS field?  Details please...

  • Hi,

Thanks for sharing the question with us. There is no indication in the Store that a particular app requires hardware other than the minimum requirements to install Windows 8 Consumer Preview. If you would like this information to be available to the user, it would be best added to the developer page for the app. The app will remain visible in the Windows 8 Consumer Preview Store. It's always a best practice to let the user's know about hardware requirements though.
