Does anyone else's Samsung slate orientation work? Mine stuck in landscape

    Question

  • I purchase the Samsung Series 7 slate from the MS store and installed the developer bits.  I have never been able to rotate and switch to portrait mode, despite pushing lock the button on the left side of the device.  Any one else able to rotate?
    Thanks, Terrence

  • Steps to get everything working on the Series 7 Slate:

Install updated firmware (05FW) from Samsung.

Install updated Intel chipset drivers from Samsung.

Install motion sensor drivers (set compatibility to Windows 7) from Samsung.

With the firmware update, the start button and rotation lock buttons will work.

  • Terrence_,

Just to verify that I understand you correctly, you are running Windows Developer Preview on a Samsung Series 7 slate and unable to rotate the device between portrait modes is that correct?  Have you downloaded the latest drivers for you device and all of the Microsoft updates to see if this alleviates your problem?  If not then please try let and let me know the results of what happens.

    Thanks,

  • I also purchased a Samsung Slate, and I am also having problems with the screen rotational problems.  I have followed the recomendations of Installing firmware (05FW), Updated Chipdrivers from Samsung, as well as the motion sensor drivers.  After the above changes, my screen rotation still does not work...Any Suggestions?

  • Stupid question but did you try pressing the rotation lock button after that?  Maybe it's defaulted to having the lock on?  I don't remember, but I just know that those were the only steps that were required for me personally.

  • Yes, I have pressed the Lock / Unlock button on the upper right side, but nothing changes,  are there any other options I could try?

Since above posting, I spoke with a Samsung (Web Chat) service technician.  After informing him of the above steps that I have taken, he recommended that I restore my PC/Tablet to the original restore point, when I received this unit.  Doing so will also remove any changes, data and applications that I have loaded.  I'm going to have to think about that resolution for now...it could be hazardous!

  • It may be too late, but I think all you needed to do was click the 'allow screen to auto-rotate'  check-box. It's in control panel> appearance and personalisation>Display > screen resolution

I did all the steps, not bios, i found in control panel that in device settings it has senors option for the light sensor and the accelerometer, it wasnt activated, so i did but it did nothing, try that guys, D1, i did your solution but screen resolution has no option like you say, only has the screen size, orientation, advanced but i swear i saw the auto rotation somewhere before. but when i updated the samsung stuff, including the chipset, it was after updating all that when it stopped working. im trying bios now.

Update: I just updated everything including bios. Rebooted, turned the accelerometer back on in locations and other sensors in control panel/hardware and sound. checked for everything to allow rotation but found nothing, checked device manager and see if device has error... nothing works... some type of windows and/or samsung update has stopped it from working...

  • Hey Chrispydtank,

When you press the rotation lock button on the right side (if you are facing the screen of the device) do you see a box on the screen that shows a rotation icon and either on or off?

When you said "when i updated the samsung stuff, including the chipset, it was after updating all that when it stopped working", does that mean that your screen rotation was working at a time, but stopped working after updating some drivers or software?
