Dynamically created GridView – use update postback

    Question

  • I have a GridView with all columns created by a template.  My grid has to be re-created each time on postback.  I have a custom built menu above the grid which fires a postback onClick (table cell).

My problem is when I click save in my menu, by the time page_load happens the data in the grid has been removed (can’t find control); I believe this is because the view state is cleared.

Ideally I would like to use the built-in Grid.RowUpdating method, using javascript:__doPostBack('Grid$ctl06$ctl00','').  The only way I can get this to work is by using ‘Grid.AutoGenerateEditButton = True’, but I don’t want the links displayed in the first column.  How do I remove the links or is there a way to use this functionallty without using AutoGenerateEditButton.

    Thanks
