MSI FOR WEB APPLICATIONS IN VISUAL STUDIO 2012

    Question

  • Is it possible to create MSI for the below project types under  “VISUAL STUDIO 2012” ?

    · ASP.Net Web Application

      ASP.Net  MVC 4

      WCF / REST SERVICE

     ...........................................................................................................................................................

Please refer to the below text to have a glance at our project history.

     ............................................................................................................................................................

We have a ASP.NET project that has been running under "Visual Studio 2008 with .NET FRAMEWORK 3.5" since the project’s initiation and have been delivering the software to the clients in the form of "MSI", which we were able to create using the Visual Studio's default template "MSI INSTALLER PROJECT".

Now we have a requirement to migrate the solution to Visual Studio 2012 and continue providing the MSI as a deliverable to the Client. In this process, we were able to convert the solution from VS2008 to VS2012 but to our horror came to know "MSI INSTALLER PROJECT" is not part of VS 2012 anymore. So, we started trying with "INSTALLSHIELD LE" for days together but failed to find a solution after trying various techniques that we uncovered on web. Finally we have also tried a hand with "INSTALLSHIELD IMPORT WIZARD" which was supposed to do the trick for us, instead it started throwing an error message showing "Fatal error: INSTALLSHIELD doesn't support web deployment Setup projects".

We have been desperately looking for clues and solutions to get the work done. So any kind of help would be greatly appreciated

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

According to your description, you want to create Setup of Website Using Install Shield LE in Visual Studio 2012.

InstallShield is a third part product which doesn't support in the MSDN forums, please create a new thread in InstallShield forum.

  • This forum is for questions about forum profile and recognition system. Your question should be asked in a Visual Studio forum, such as:

  • Hello,

This forum is for discussions and questions regarding profiles and Microsoft's recognition system on the MSDN and TechNet sites. It is not for products/technologies.

As it's off topic here, I am moving the question to the "Where is the forum for..." forum.
