  • Are you asking from the standpoint of the one who is deploying this application, or from the standpoint of someone who is trying to install an application that someone else deployed?

    If the latter, go talk to whoever deployed the application.

    If the former, this looks kind of like the user does not have access to the application files on the web server or something like that. Can you check that?

    I would also check the MIME types on the server and make sure they are set up correctly:

    .application  --> application/x-ms-application
    .manifest  --> application/x-ms-application
    .deploy   --> application/octet stream

    If you are deploying .Net 3.5, you need these too:

    .msp --> application/microsoftpatch
    .msu --> application/microsoftupdate

    If your app is a VSTO app, you need this one as well:

    .vsto --> application/x-ms-vsto

    How many people are installing this app? Are all of them having problems, or just one? Are you deploying directly to the web server with Visual Studio, or deploying and moving it a different way, or deploying with Mage?

  • Thank you Robin!

    I am the one deploying directly to the web server with Visual Studio 2008,

    I'm testing the installation on more than one machines within the company's intranet.

    The points you raised remind me of what I had to do over a year ago when I successfully deployed/installed via clickonce.

    I'll be testing your ideas out this week.

    Appreciatively.  -greg
