  • Hello David,

    From the following error:

Error Message Id: 1935 ErrorMessage: An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,version="8.0.50727.6229",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="amd64",type="win32"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x800736FD.

It is a issue related to your OS, please try the following:

    1.  If you haven't yet, install the latest service pack for Windows.  In your case, that would be Windows 7 SP1

    2.  If that doesn't help, then try the System Update Readiness Tool described at support.microsoft.com/.../947821.

    3.  If neither of those help, then I'd suggest either contacting Microsoft Technical Support for further help (using the contact information at http://support.microsoft.com), or try to repair/re-install Windows

    Regards,

  • Hi Barry

Thanks for the info,  my system has all the updates including SP1 and I used Windows update to install any new updates.

I have gone through the log file and found the error  0x80070643 , the website

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2899270/en-us#ISO

Visual Studio 2013 Setup: common issues and workarounds

    shows this error as

0x80070643 - Installation cache or ISO is corrupted

This error typically occurs when a file that is related to the installation becomes corrupted. You may experience this error when you install Visual Studio by using an ISO or DVD burned from ISO. You may also experience this error during a repair of Visual Studio.

I had installed from a DVD created from a downloaded ISO file, so this morning I have started a web install of Visual Studio 2013  and specified "Repair",  this is taking awhile. Hopefully that will resolve the problem.

I'll update this thread when the "Repair" finishes currently it is retrying the Hotfix for Windows (KB2774825) which seems to be taking a long time, hopefully this "Repair" will fix the problems.

    Regards

  • Hi Barry

I started the repair and it was taking a long time, with some retries. I had to leave it running and go off to a class at UBC. When I got back it had finished with the same set of errors.

I have been very busy so haven't  had time to do more. I have now uninstalled vs2013 ult and downloaded a fresh ISO image. I cleaned up my system, and have run Windows update to make sure I am up to date.

I backup up my files, rebooted the computer and I'm gong to check the SHA1 hash and try a fresh install. This is on my desktop.

On my laptop I have 2 drives and 3 instances of win 7 ult. (makes it easier to do testing). I have just installed vs2013 pro on 1 instance (where both vs2008 and vs2010 are already installed). It installed with message Setup Successful. All specified components have been installed successfully. So if I still have a problem with vs2013 ultimate on my desktop, I'll try and see if it will install on another instance of Win 7 Ult on my laptop.

Hopefully this time it will work.

    Regards

  • Hi David,

The two error you mentioned seems all related to Windows Updates. Can you try this tool  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821/en-gb to see the result? I'm afraid your operating system may corrupt on problem Win 7 and I would recommend you try either the tool I mentioned below or use sfc /scannow to check for system files.

  • That AppDrive 0, looks suspicious to me. I'm not a setup/install expert, but it might be worth checking your drives to see if you have available space to complete the installation.

    Sincerely,

  • Hi Ed, Barry

There is obviously something wrong with my Win 7 system. I had some problems with the update process.

I downloaded the standalone update process Barry recommended and that didn't help. I try sfc /scannow and couldn't get that to work, so I did an offline sfc /scannow which worked but didn't find any problems.  I followed some guidelines to check the trustedinstaller and that worked so that windows update now worked.  I cleaned off some disk space so that I had >45gb free space on on system drive and ran windows update. I installed Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate with no problems(not VS 2013 Ult), however I still had other problems.  Some how my earlier system restore points I had before trying to install Visual Studio 2013 had been deleted (probably because I hadn't allocated enough space and the standalone windows updates created new restore points) so I could not do a system restore from a point before the problems.

I decided to do an upgrade reinstall from my Win 7 Ultimate with sp1 DVD , that worked and then I had Windows update install about 130 updates. However I still had problems like Windows Explorer has stopped working and is restarting. I fixed that with a reinstall of my nVidia drivers for my geForce 580 graphics cards. That fixed it so that the message didn't come up on boot or when opening folders or drives. However when I right click on the desktop it still comes up.

I could now run sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt and that showed no problems. Some how I don't trust the system as it is. So I think I need to either need to do a complete fresh instal (but that requires re-installing a lot of software) or since I do have backup cloned drive from about about 6 months ago, I think I'll just re-clone it (that system was working well), update it and then install the software I've added or updated since then.

As I mentioned earlier I installed the full Visual Studio 2013 Ult on my laptop without any problems, so my VS DVD is fine.  So I'll just put this system drive aside (there are some directories I'll have to copy from later, some project files and my Outlook folders), I also have 2 other drives for my projects, data and backup, and use the cloned backup drive (I think I'll use a larger drive and make sure I have enough free space). Once I get that updated (and with sufficient restore points) I'll try VS 2013 Ult again.

Unfortunately that will have to wait till next week as I have a final project presentation to do on Friday for my "Compressive Sensing" grad course at UBC.

    Regards

    David
