Alert receiving problem

    Question

  • Hi,
We are working with beta2, single server installation. We have currently about 15 users defined in TS. Most of them receive Work Item changed notification successfully. One user is not. I checked already issues from this post. User in question was registered for notification with correct case in user name. In bislog.txt I have following entries when users WI changed:

2005-08-03T20:10:33:777 (main) Subscription matched for type WorkItemChangedEvent
2005-08-03T20:10:33:809 (main) Calling notification filter Microsoft.VisualStudio.Currituck.SecurityPlugIn.NotificationFilter
    2005-08-03T20:10:35:871 (main) Found restrictions Microsoft.VisualStudio.Currituck.SecurityPlugIn.NotificationFilter

that's it, no actual mail send. For correct subscription I receive additional lines:
2005-08-03T20:13:17:857 (main) Activating a new thread to send events
    2005-08-03T20:13:17:857 (main) Entering Send loop
2005-08-03T20:13:17:872 (main) Getting body for email
    2005-08-03T20:13:17:982 (main)
    Microsoft.VisualStudio.Bis.Server.Events.Notification

    What am I missing?
    Anything else I can check?

    Thanks in advance,
    Leon

  • Leon,

From the output in bislog.txt, it is pretty clear that security filter is failing this workitem email delivery for some restriction.

    Check if...
    - The user has Read permission to the Area Path of that work item.
    - Open the BISIISDIR\bisserver\web.config and look for a value for 'eSwitch'. Set it to '4' (Verbose) to see if bislog.txt gives more information.

Let us know how this goes.

    Thanks,
    Bhavik

  • Check the Junk E-mail folder, too. Sometimes this messages are caught as junk mail by some filters.
