  • Hi Wang,

    Thank you for your post.

    Some clarification with you:
    What's your OS?

For error 1603, it's a common message that means "fatal error during installation".

As a try, could you please help me to check whether you can directly install Visual Studio 2010 64bit Prerequisites (x64) on your machine?

    For the ISO image, please:
       - Extract the ISO image, to your local computer, that you have just created using something like WinZip

Then please go to the path: ....\WCU\64bitPrereq\x64 and then try the installation of Visual Studio 2010 64bit Prerequisites (x64) alone by clicking on the VS_Prerequisites_x64_enu.msi file.

After the Visual Studio 2010 64bit Prerequisites (x64) has been installed, please run the Visual Studio 2010 installer again.

If the problem still exists, We need to look into the log files for further troubleshooting.
Could you please follow the following steps to collect the log files?

    - Try to clean your "%temp%" folder (Start Menu >> Run >> Type "%temp%")
    - Install VS2010
(The installer must be run with administrator privileges - Right-click the installer >> "Run as Administrator")
    - Collect the logs from "%temp%" folder
       Collect tool: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e0da314f-6216-4a18-bc6b-7d29cf83af20&displaylang=en
    - Send vslogs.cab file to me (v-yicche@microsoft.com)
Note: Please attach the link of this post in the mail.

Hope this helps! If you have any concern, please feel free to let me know.

  • When i install the VS_Prerequisites_x64_enu i get this error:

The Installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2908.

I need to hit 5 times for the OK button for this notification.

After that i get this error:

Error 1935. An error occured during the installation of assembly "Microsoft.VisualStudio.Debugger.Runtime,version="10.0.0.0". publicKeyToken="b03f5f7f11d50a3a". processorArchitecture="MSIL",fileversion="10.0.30319.1, culture="neutral".

Please refer to help and support for more information. HRESULT:0x8002802F

Now do you need more information ?

note: I have installed .net framework version 4 from the webinstaller. It did the install correct. But still i can not install vs 2010.

  • I'm also hitting this.  On the recommendation to unpack and run the prereq installer independently, I see that it's failing to open XML file  c:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30128\CONFIG\machine.config as well as  c:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30128\CONFIG\machine.config  .   Well I have v4.0.30319 instead.  So I ended up creating the 2 folder structures it was looking for and copying the machine.config files out of each the matching v4.0.30319 folder into the v4.0.30128\CONFIG folders I just created and now it seems to be proceeding with my setup.

I don't know if it will finish yet or not or if there are other ramifications, but just thought I'd pass this on.

  • my above step did not work - other install errors.  However, it did clue me in to that it was a .Net version issue.  Uninstalling my current .NET 4 version allowed the installer to install successfully.

  • My OS is win7x64.

I also tried it on win7 32bit. The installation stops on the F# step.

vs2010 beta2 has the same problem.

vs2010 beta1 can be installed sucessfully. After uninstalling it, vs2010 release ultimate can pass all the installation. But only C++ and F# console work. Creating C# or VB projects will cause the IDE to crash. When load an existing C# project, an error prompts mentioning some failure about C# language service.

One of my friend has the same crashing problem.

  • btw, VS_Prerequisites_x64_enu.msi  can not be installed separately.

  • Hello everyone,

    This solution works for me:

    1. See if you have this "Microsoft.NET Framework 4 Client Profile" installed on your system under Program and Features.
    2. Uninstall it
    3. Install VS 2008

    Hope this works for you.

    Quan.

  • YiChun

I am having the same issue.  I have Win7 x64 and am trying to install TeamExplorer 2010.  It fails on the 64-bit pre-reqs install.

I have tried installing the pre-reqs separately.  Doesn't work.

I have tried re-installing the .NET 4 framework.  Also doesn't work.

Very frustrating.  Is there any known solution here?

    Thanks

  • My solution was

uninstalling ASP.NET Framework  4.0 32 bit that was installed on my Win 7 64bit machine

    and installing ASP.NET Framework 4.0 x64 correctly.
