Catastrophic failure ( Exception From HRESULT:0x8000FFFF (E_UnExpected))

    Question

  • I get this message in my light switch application after every refresh and some times close screen, I believe some people face this many times, i also believe that it is not a matter of developer code problem also i believe it is not harmful; every time it appears the previous job is done.

IS It a matter of regional Culture And Resources because i build my application in Arabic language ?

Is it a matter of Silverlight version and compatibility because i receive this while running SL 5.0 Beta, SL 5.0 RTM I didn't try with SL 4.0 ?

Any Idea about the real reason ?

    Any Idea About workaround ?

    Regards,

    Ashraf.

  • It's most definitely not "normal", so the major culprits would be:

    • installation problem
    • user code causing the error

I just saw you're running SL5 BETA, so I'd be thinking that was your more likely cause. Did you uninstall the beta, before installing the RTM? Maybe something didn't uninstall properly.

I've not seen this error frequenctly (or at all maybe), using SL4.

  • Unfortunatly there is a serious regression with RTL Languages with SL5 (Beta and RTM) installed. If you go back to SL4 (Design and Runtime) you should be ok.

The LightSwitch team is currently investiging possible fixes.

  • Not at this time. We are working with the Silverlight team to release a fix, but I don't currently have an ETA.

  • We anticipate that the Silverlight team will release a patch for Silverlight 5 which includes a fix for this issue sometime in late CYQ2.

  • Are you seeing this problem with RTL languages only? What version of SL did you re-install? We have only seen this error with SL5 and RTL so far.

    Thanks.

  • Hi,
    Any update on this issue?
I'm using Lightswitch2011 with VS2010 & SL5, I'm facing this error only when using RTL.

  • I believe this the update just went out during the March update. You should be able to get it via windows update or going to Get Microsoft Silverlight

I believe the latest Silverlight version is 5.1.20125.0.
