  • Where are you downloading the .NET framework 4.0 setup from?

Here are the links for your reference.

  • If you did not use one of  the MIcrosoft links systemx gave you, make sure you use them.

If you did use one of those links, what AV software are you using? You should contact the publisher of the AV software to report the false positive.

  • Hello,

I think you are downloading it from non-Microsoft site. Try this link below.

  • I am not sure if this is how ask another question, very, very, new to this.  I think my last thread had to be a false negative, and did report to AV software supplier. I was definitly on Microsoft link. Stand alone installer can you explain this? Is the .NET framework4.0 even designed for windows xp pro or is it for vista and 7 only? Again just trying to learn this and just beginner.

Hi soonerguy1967, standalone installer means that you download the entire installer onto your computer and you can use that installer on other computers without having to re-download the installer again. It's like an offline installer.

Please have a look at the link below that describes to you the .NET framework 4.0 system requirements.

  • .NET Framework 4.0 IS supported on Windows XP, provided XP has been updated to SP3.

So, if you do not already have SP3 for Windows XP installed, you must install SP3 before installing .NET 4.0.

If you have tried to run the standalone installer for .NET Framework 4.0,

    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=17718

and it failed, please share your install logs with us as follows:

Please collect your install logs with this:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=E0DA314F-6216-4A18-BC6B-7D29CF83AF20&displaylang=e&displaylang=en

After you run Collect.exe, you'll find vslogs.cab in your %temp% directory. Please upload vslogs.cab to a public site, like SkyDrive, and post the link here.

We need the logs to see the details of the problem.
