The Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.14.0 provider is not registered on the local machine.

    Question

  • Hi,

    I downloaded the recently released Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable. I want to get an application going which talks to an Access Database natively on a 64bit machine (From what I have read this version is suspose to support 64bit). Anyway that is beside the point because I have the same problem on a 32bit machine.

    After downloading and installing the redist (both 32 and 64 bit versions); I follow the instructions on the download page, and it says to use the provider name “Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.14.0”. Great!

    Except that the provider is never installed. I've reinstalled it like a thousand times, but I still have the same problem.

    Does anyone have any ideas?? And please don't say dont use an Access Database!

    Code looks like:

    static void Main(string[] args)
    {
    System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection cn = new System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection(@"PROVIDER=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.14.0;Data source=c:\xtreme.mdb");
    cn.Open();
    cn.Close();
    }

    InvalidOperationException was Unhandled
    The 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.14.0' provider is not registered on the local machine.

    Thanks for any help
