Update for VS2010 SP1 (KB2813041) failed

    Question

  • Windows Update on this Windows 7 machine has told me that the update mentioned above is available for installation but every time I try to install it I get a failure with error code 643.

This is a 64-bit machine and I have tried rebooting and downloading the update manually all to no avail.

How can I get this update to install correctly?

  • Hello John,

    Here is your error:

Returning IDOK. INSTALLMESSAGE_ERROR [Error 1706.An installation package for the product Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate - ENU cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'vs_setup.msi'.]

That update is corrupt to install due to msi cannot find.

Please try repair VS2010 first to see if your VS2010 is corrupt. If there is any error persists, please share your log output again.

  • Hi JohnAtMHS,

    Thanks for your post.

The error code 0x643 which means a common error so I need more details. Please go to your %temp% folder and search for logs about this update, the name of this log should be KB2813041_<Date>_<Number>.txt or html. Please upload that log for me to analyze.

You can also use this tool http://aka.ms/vscollect  to gather the installation logs. After using it, you will find vslogs.cab from %temp% folder. Please upload the file to https://skydrive.live.com/   and share the link here.
