"The breakpoint will not be hit, no symbols have been loaded for this document" - missing pdb files, how to re generate?

    Question

  • Hi,

I am receiving the error mentioned above after the following steps:

1 - When debugging, I noticed that the yellow highlighting was not in sync with my code.

2 - I identified this as a problem with the pdb file not matching the code.

3 - Thinking that the pdb files would be automatically generated whenever I built into debug, I deleted the existing pdb files hoping that new ones would be generated and I could put my breakpoints in and carry on.

4 - New ones were not generated, and I am now getting this error.

On googling for this problem and looking in other threads, many people are suggesting to check which dlls have pdb files loaded in the Debug > Windows > Modules screen and then specify the location of the missing pdb files. My issue is that I do not have any pdb files. My hope is that someone can explain to me how I can re generate my deleted pdb files that should be built with each dll.

    Many Thanks
