  • Hi -Jazzy,

I would like to suggest that to fire up VS and attach to the services and find out what is wrong. Using a debugger is much easier than just looking at this information.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Jazzy,

We experienced this issue as well.  We noticed that it happened every time IIS recycled itself.  After many hours of troubleshooting, we finally did the following to resolve the event being logged.

In the Computer Management Console, expand the Local Users and Groups section and look in the Users folder.  Check to see if the ASPNET user exists on the machine.  In our case the user didn't exist.  Reference the following URL to utilize the ASP.NET IIS Registration Tool.

    http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/k6h9cz8h(VS.80).aspx

We used the following options: -i to install the version of ASP.NET associated (our case was 2.0 framework as well) and then followed with the -ga user option to grant access to the user that we run the directories under.

Once that was complete, the Users folder was checked after a refresh and the ASPNET user was created.  Then the server was recycled, tests executed against the machine which included recycling the IIS, and the error no longer occurred.

I have provided a basic outline below of the steps used.

    Good Luck!

    Chrysa

Steps to execute the ASP.NET IIS Registration Tool:

    1. Login to the server throwing the event ID: 1000, Source .NET Runtime 2.0 Error, Faulting application w3wp.exe, faulting module unknown.

    2. Select Start - Run

    3. Type CMD

    4. Navigate to the directory for the .Net Framework   (example path below)

      cd C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727

    5.  Once in the .Net Framework directory type the following command to install the ASP.NET version associated with the tool.

    ASPNET_REGIIS -i

    6.  Once the -i option is executed in Step 5, if the ASP.NET worker processes are run by a specific user other than a network service account, run the following command to grant access to that user (if using network service account, you may want to review the following Microsoft KB article as well (option 3)- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918041/en-us))

    ASPNET_REGIIS -ga user

    7.  Once this is complete exit the command prompt by typing the word EXIT

    8.  Review the Computer Management Console for the User addition - ASPNET user

    9.  Restart the server

    10. Once the machine has been recycled, log in and execute validation tests.  Review the event application log and the error no longer occurs.
