Do I need to purchase a seperate license for VS Team Explorer if I already have a license for Team Explorer Everywhere

    Question

  • Hi,

I have a licensing question. My customer has CAL licenses for both VS Team Explorer and Team Explorer Everywhere. My question is, do we need to have an additional license for MS Visual Studio Team Explorer if I already have a license of Team Explorer Everywhere for the same user.

    Thanks

    Tuhin

  • To connect to and work with TFS, each user are required to be licenced with one CAL .

For each client tool, you also need to have the required licensens.

For Team Explorer there is no client licensen, So in order to work with Team Explorer against the TFS, you simply need a CAL.

If you have purchased Team ExplorerErverwhere and a TFS CAL you should be fully licensen to use TeamExplorer (asuming you only connects to tfs within the same organisation).

Your local Microsoft sales office can answer your questions. You could also refer the Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Licensing Whitepaper http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2b1504e6-0bf1-46da-be0e-85cc792c6b9d&displaylang=en

  • Hello Tuhin,

    Thanks for your post.

Because your issue relates to the license, I think license experts can help you with more information. You can call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific Time) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist, and you can get more detail information from there. Worldwide customers can use the Guide to Worldwide Microsoft Licensing Sites to find contact information in their locations: http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/

I hope it can help you.

  • On the link Mattias posted I found:

    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=13350

Visual Studio Team Explorer 2010, which is included with Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate, Visual Studio 2010 Premium, Visual Studio 2010 Professional, and Visual Studio Test Professional 2010, and available for download to the general public. Team Explorer also can be installed as a standalone client, and on as many physical devices as you like.
