Migrate from visual studio 2010 to VS 2012

    Question

  • I have an application with following VS configurations:

    1. TFS 2010

    2. Visual studio 2010

    3. MVC 3.0

    4. T4 template

    5. Moles and rhino mocks

    6. Unity container

    7. Entity Framework 4.0

We want to now migrate to Visual studio 2012 with TFS 2012 and MVC 4.5. What could be the best way to do it without taking too much time.

Also what can be possible issues which we can face.

  • Hi Mukesh,

I involved the TFS expert to further look at this issue. I am moving your thread into the Team Foundation Server - Source and Version Control  Forum for dedicated support. Thanks for your understanding.

  • Hi Joshi,

    Thanks for your post.

You want to move your application from TFS 2010 Source Control to TFS 2012 Source Control and with history?

Try this test: Copy your application, then open this copied application in VS 2012, check if your application works fine in VS 2012.

  • here is a link for upgrading your MVC from v3 to v4. Pay attention to the breaking changes

Microsoft replaced Moles with Fakes in VS2012. You may want to upgrade moles to fakes. In VS2012 Update 2, Moles will be available for the premium edition

  • Sorry for the wrong version. We are migrating from 4.0 to 4.5 and we are facing following issues

    1. The class library projects lost references and then we have to manually add all the references again.

    2. In resource files (we have in four languages), some of the properties are deleted and those has to be added manually.

    3. For some of the projects which are build in VS10, we have to update the path for visual studio in the ,csproj file to VS11.
