  • 1) Download the process template to disk
Using Visual studio, selecting  Team\Team Foundation Server Settings\Process Template Manager
Select you process template and press Download , select a folder on local disk

    2) Create a new Team Project to house your process template soucre control

    3) Add your downlaoded process template to sourcecontrol
Open your team project in team expolere, open source control window, map your folder to the location on disc.
Select add items to folder, selecting the root folder of your downloaded process template, Select Next, Select Finnish
In the pending changes windows check-in all files

Now your process template is under source control, you can check-out, edit, check-in and create branches on your process template,
But as stated earlier, you must manually deploy (upload) your process template to test and production.

  • Yes you can download (export) individual WorkItemTypes from a team project and check-in and handle them in souce control.
But you still have to manually download, edit, checkin, and upload your WIT.
You can also download a complete process template using Proces Tempalte Manager and check the complete process template under source control.

  • Is it a project template or a generic process template for all projects in your organisation you want to have under version control ?

  • It sucks that TFS doesn't automatically save the templates in some sort of internal source control for each team project.  Do you know if there are any plans to add this as a feature into VS11/TFS11?  Thanks.

  • Have you used the Community TFS Build Manager?

    http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/16bafc63-0f20-4cc3-8b67-4e25d150102c

This gives you a lot of cool features you can use and apply on ur builds.

You will be able to branch your build templates right from this tool. Give it a go and be sure to share your feedback.
