error -1073741819

    Question

  • I am having problems with this error:
    Project : error PRJ0002 : Error result -1073741819 returned from 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe'.

I have seen this error before (even when I use visual c++ express 2005 on a regular c++ file)

Currently I am getting this error from building a program using QT and Visual Studio C++

    The build window says this:
    1>------ Build started: Project: p2, Configuration: Debug Win32 ------
    1>Performing Makefile project actions
    1>Microsoft (R) Program Maintenance Utility Version 8.00.50727.42
1>Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
    1> "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\VC\bin\nmake.exe" -f Makefile.Debug

    1>p2 - 1 error(s), 0 warning(s)
    ========== Build: 0 succeeded, 1 failed, 0 up-to-date, 0 skipped ==========

    This is my build log:

I get this error no matter regardless of my code?  Any ideas?

  • If I were you I'd reinstall Visual Studio and see if that did the trick.

I spotted another similar case reported here on the forums, also lacking a resolution, so this looks like a freak issue to me. You could report it at http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/, but I don't think that'd solve it any quicker

  • I reinstalled Visual Studio 2x (not in a row) and it didn't help at all.  I finally was able to work around the error with tools->options->projects and solutions->build and run->"on run when errors occur"->launch old version.

I still get the error, but everything functions just fine.  Thanks for the help.

  • Does this happen when you attempt to compile any wizard generated source project?

  • Yes I just used the wizard to make a new CLR Console Application, and when I compile it gives me the same error.

However if I press f5 it still runs with the CLR (but no such luck with the makefile project)

The reason it's so important is because I can't debug my makefile.  Unless there is another way to get visual c++ into debug mode.  Thanks.
