TEE 11 Beta on Mac can't authenticate

    Question

  • Hey everyone! Has anyone had any problems with TEE 11 Beta not being able to authenticate with TFSPreview on a mac? When it asks me for user name and password, the fields are black which make it impossible to see text in them.

After I put in my live id and password and log in, it keeps opening and closing the window saying "Loading Identity Providers". After several failed attempts, it brings up a window saying that the site isn't apart of windows live, or something like that. Basically, an error page.

My business partner has no issues with using it on a Windows machine, leading me to believe that this might just have something to do with me being on a Mac. However, it was working just fine a few days ago, this is just a recent problem.

Please help, as I need to check in some stuff for him as soon as possible.

  • All - we just published the Release Candidate of Team Explorer Everywhere 11.  If you want run into this issue then please upgrade to this latest version which includes a work-around for the bug in WebKit.

We also now have a proper Eclipse Update site, so if you would like to stay on the bleeding edge and automatically get the latest preview version of the TFS Plug-in for Eclipse then you can use the following update site in Eclipse:

Let us know what you think to this build.  Take a look at Brian Harry's post for a run down on some of the new goodness.

    Many thanks,

    Martin.

  • Is it working now?  We did have some issues with the log-in page in a recent update of tfspreview.com against certain versions of Safari which got fixed pretty quickly.  I'm currently running Safari version 5.1.6 (7534.56.5) on Mac OS 10.7.4 and it is working for me now.

If things are not working, can you let me know what version of Safari and OS X you are using?

    Thanks,

    Martin.

  • So, after posting I went and made sure I'd got all the latest updates.  After a couple of rounds of checking I'm now running Mac OS X 10.7.4 (11E53) with Safari 5.1.7.  On this very latest set of updates, I can confirm that we have a blocking issue when attempting to authenticate with tfspreview.com.

Turns out that the embedded WebKit libraries in the latest updates for OS X takes the version of WebKit that Eclipse uses to 534.56.5.  This WebKit version contains a bug that causes issues around form authentication which is what we do to authenticate you with tfspreview.com using your federated LiveID credentials.  The version of WebKit that ships inside Safari 5.1.7 does not contain this bug as it is a newer version (534.57.2) - however that is not the version of WebKit that is available to other applications on Mac OS X like Eclipse that use the system browser control.

We are currently working on this issue with the highest priority to see if we can figure out a workaround for the WebKit bug so that we can get TEE to authenticate and I'll post back as soon as we have an update.

    Apologies,

    Martin.

  • Good news - We have a code fix to work-around the WebKit bug (https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=79206) on OS X 10.7.4 which we are in the process of testing.  If you are affected by this issue and require a private build to confirm the fix and unblock you then please get in touch with on martin.woodward@microsoft.com and I'll see what I can do.

This fix will be included in our next preview release of TEE 11, and will also be included in the final RTM build.  Thanks to everyone for the feedback.

    Martin.

  • Hi Martin,

I sent you an email yesterday requesting the fix.  Did you receive it?  I am currently experiencing the exact same problem, and I am dead in the water without the TFS plug in working.  I would really appreciate a copy of the fix so I can continue with development.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Martin,

I see that version 11.0.0.201205250124 has been released at the repository. Is this the one that targets the authentication webkit bug? The login window was shown to me once, then it just changed to a regular username password field and I am still unable to log in. I am using tfspreview for this.

Is there a more recent version? I am using Safari 5.1.7 and OSX 10.7.4

    Thanks!

  • 11.0.0.201205250124 is the latest version of TEE 11 and is correctly authenticating for me under Mac OS X 10.7.4.  Can you tell me what happens if you try to visit your tfspreview.com account just using Safari - does it authenticate then?

    Thanks,

    Martin.
