Database Access Using SOAP and REST Web services

    Question

  • Hi Guys,
Can anyone post the links regarding DATABASE ACCESS USING BOTH WEB SERVICES. How to query the database using the web service. Suppose i have SQL statement like " Select empID,empName,CName from employee, company where empID=CID;".  How to  send this sql query to database server using REST and SOAP web Services?

    Thank You

  • Hi,

If you want to build a WCF service which will help encapsulate data base operations, you can have a look at the WCF Data Service which will simplify the work if your datasource is ADO.NET compatible:

    #WCF Data Services

Also, if you do not use existing Data Service component WCF DataSerivce, you can also build your own  WCF service which expose operations to manipulate backend database, you can easily adopt REST feature via using the WCF REST endpoint/behavior:

  • Hello,

You may post your issue on the ASMX Web Services and XML Serialization Forum or XML Web Services Forum so you can get better and quicker response as this forum here is for the web performance and load testing of visual studio.

    Thanks for your understanding.

  • Edwer, since this is new web service development, he should be using WCF. I'll direct him there.

WCF is Web Services. They are not two separate things.
Use WCF for All New Web Service Development, instead of legacy ASMX or obsolete WSE
Use File->New Project to create Web Service Projects
