Application Updater - How to use a Network Folder

    Question

  • Hi, so I am using the application updater:

    http://windowsclient.net/articles/appupdater.aspx

It looks very nice, I have read the documentation, however, I have a simple question. I am not expert in servers neither "http" stuff, I just want to deploy an "small" application that is going to be used in an office (LAN). I am able to use network folders and network drivers only.

Put in other words in Step 5 "Setup the Web Server" I dont undestand. I just want to place all updates in a network LAN folder and use that folder as the "server". I have already tried in UpdateUrl : http://localhost/SampleApp_ServerSetup/UpdateVersion.xml (I thought localhost is something like C:\") but it does not work.

    Question:
How can I define the UpdateUrl = "C:\SomeTest\UpdateVersion.xml" ? so tha, I would set up a path to a network folder or the the local machine?

Thanks, this question may have no sence but I dont know nothing about servers as I said.

note. forgot to said that i cannot use one click installation because i need to install this program for all users in the same pc

    Regards,
    Enrique.

  • You cannot set appupdater with a network folder because it is designed to use HTTP requests.

If I remember right you should be able to configure ClickOnce deployment to use a network share.

  • My next suggestion is exploring the Microsoft Updater Application Block.

Here is article about creating a custom downloader to use a UNC path:
