Installing vcredist 2010 fails on windows 7: failed with error 0x800b0100

    Question

  • I'm trying to install vcredist_x86 and x64 2010 on windows 7 but keep getting a strange error. I've tried to look up the error but have not found any results. I downloaded it from http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5555

  • Hi Mnguyen84,

    Thank you for your reply.

First, I recommend you update the root certificates and reran the setup. Update for Root Certificates: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=11446

Second, please open a windows explorer. Then click Organize>>Folder and search options>>View>>Advanced settings>>Hidden files and folders>>Select “Show hidden files, folders, or drives” , and disable “Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)”. Next, try to find the folder “g:\81ade338847d7838874b”. If you can find it, delete it and reran the setup.

Third, I recommend you take a look at this webpage which I think is helpful: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/netfxsetup/thread/2107384c-e030-48d9-9e4d-02537bf3b755

Finally, from your reply, you have encountered an error when you ran Windows Activation software. It seems like some of your system files have corrupted. Could you please try to follow these steps (completely format OS >> reinstall Windows 7 >> install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable) on your machine?

    I hope this helps.

  • You say Windows 7, but your log extract says Vista x64 Business Edition. Which is it?

If it's Vista, do you have SP2 installed. SP2 is a prerequisite for the product you want.

    See Systerm Requirements.

  • I honestly have no idea why it says vista 64. I tried it again this morning and it says windows 7 64. I had just recently installed SP1 for windows 7 and tried to plex server 0.9.207 but it failed and checked the site for the application I'm trying to install and they said it was because of SP1. I uninstalled SP1 for windows 7 but the problem persists.

  • I tried doing the registering in an administrator command prompt:

    1. At the command prompt, type regsvr32 Softpub.dll, and then press ENTER. -worked
    2. At the command prompt, type regsvr32 Wintrust.dll, and then press ENTER.-failed: The Module "Wintrust.dll" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005
    3. At the command prompt, type regsvr32 Initpki.dll, and then press ENTER. - failed: The module "initpki.dll" failed to load.
    4. At the command prompt, type regsvr32 Mssip32.dll, and then press ENTER. -worked

Do you guys have any suggestions on getting these to work?

I also installed the system readiness tool but vcredist still fails to install.

I cant even run Windows Activation software. It gets error: Update Installation failed. Error Info - 0x80072EE6

It just looks like my computer has no way to verify anything that gets sent through the internet for updates and installs.
