.Net Framework 4 install fails with "...\Windows6.0-KB956250-v6001-x86.msu) failed with 0x7e - The specified module could not be found."

    Question

  • Download released version of VS2010 Professional from MSDN today. Installation runs until the section that tries to installs .Net Framework 4 fails. The verbose version of the installation log has the following...

    [4/13/2010, 17:47:10]Launching CreateProcess with command line = wusa.exe "C:\9772907ad7c00ea7e0d110bf81d007c5\Windows6.0-KB956250-v6001-x86.msu" /quiet /norestart
[4/13/2010, 17:47:11]Exe (C:\9772907ad7c00ea7e0d110bf81d007c5\Windows6.0-KB956250-v6001-x86.msu) failed with 0x7e - The specified module could not be found.
Have tried both VS2010 and .Net4 standalone install and both fail at the same point.
No pre-release, CTP or Beta versions where used at all. PC has VS2008 Professional and .Net Framework 2.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1 installed.
    Any idea why the failure?
