Filter Iteration Areas on Work Item Forms

    Question

  • We are using Areas field to denote Scrum Teams and Iteration Path to denote Release and Sprints. As we keep adding more releases and/or some special project scrum Teams might be dismantled, I don't want to show those obsolote entries to show in the drop down when a user is creating a new work item. For instance, I had Relase 1.0 with sprint 1 - sprint 4 as child and Release 2.0 with sprint 1 - sprint 4. I added Release 3.0 with sprint 1 - sprint 4 as childs. Release 1.0 is over and I don't want users to get that in the drop down for the iteration path as they create new work item ?

Can such a rule be set to accomplish this ?

    Thanks !

  • You could set permissions on iterations. Right click on your team project, select Team Project settings, select Areas and Iterations, click on iteration tab, and on the security button.

Restricting permisions on earlier iterations will however prevent the users from viewing workitems from earlier iterations.
