Question

• Dear All,

        I got the following error today. But yesterday this application is
running fine.

        Even today i try to move this project to another server. The same
symptom I got.

        Does anyone know what's happened for this case?

        Thanks,

Best Regards,

Benny Ng

Now I know the reason of this problem.

Because the page i want to submit is a main page. Through AJAX i got some content from another page. But with the returned content. It's contained a variable name "__VIEWSTATE". It will replaced the same variable of the main page.

So when i tried to submit the content of main page. The error i mentioned will comes. Because the content of __VIEWSTATE of main page is replaced already.

<form name="frmBankDetail" method="post" action="WorkingArea_Bank.aspx" id="frmBankDetail"> <div> [/<input type="hidden" name="__VIEWSTATE" id="__VIEWSTATE" value="/wEPDwUKMTU5OTg4MzUzNWRk" /> </div> <table borderColor='#000000' cellSpacing='1' cellPadding='3' width='100%' bgColor='#000000' border='0'> <tr class="shade"> <td nowrap width='12%'><b>BankName</b></td> <td nowrap width='12%'><b>BankAccount</b></td> <td nowrap width='12%'><b>BankAccountNo</b></td> <td nowrap width='12%'><b>Address</b></td> </tr> <tr bgColor="#e5e5e5" align=left> <td><input name="TxtBankName" type="text" id="TxtBankName" /></td> <td><input name="TxtBankAccount" type="text" id="TxtBankAccount" /></td> <td><input name="TxtBankAccountNo" type="text" id="TxtBankAccountNo" /></td> <td><input name="TxtBankAddress" type="text" id="TxtBankAddress" /></td> </tr> <tr class="shade"><td align=left><input name="BtnSaveBank" type="button" id="BtnSaveBank" class="button" value="Save" onclick="fnInsertBank();" /><td colspan=3></td></tr> </table> </form>

Now I have two solutions for it.

The first is to chagne the Ajax page to HTML form and HTML controls.

Another solutions is to move all the elements from Ajax page to main page.

I don't know which is better, But at least i got the solution. Thanks all.Smile

• I was getting the "state information is invalid" error and traced it back to storing an enumerated type in the viewstate. I modified my code to explicitly cast the enum to an int and it worked, like so:

private PageVersion pgVersion
{
get { return (PageVersion)ViewState["pgVersion"]; }
set { ViewState["pgVersion"] = (int)value; }
}

• hi,

first i read the above replies as i was having same error, i am bit confused that do we have to save this viewstate data explicitly or by making the enableviewstate = true of the control will do the stuf..

i am having one page only with dynamically created controls and wanted to maintain state as those run time control values will be saved into database.. so if there is one appropiate solution .. plz let me know :)

• I tried this one. It did not work.

What worked is this one: I changed the ff in my web.config from:

maxPageStateFieldLength="10000"

to

maxPageStateFieldLength="1000"

• I had this exact same error. Adding response.end immediately after your ajax output will prevent it from adding the form and other viewstate garbage from the ajax page. You may need to handle and ignore a thread abort exception that will be thrown when you call response.end

I hope this helps

It works for me if I take off the attribute 'runat' from <form> tag from the ajax page. Because I need return message.

• This is the same problem I was having.  I was storing a complex object (including an field Enum) which was causing corruption in the ViewState BUT ONLY in Google Chrome - IE was fine.
