.NET Framework 4.0 Installation Failure - Storage Control Block Address Invalid

    Question

  • I'm attempting to install the 4.0 Framework as part of a VS 2010 installation and running into the following error.  I currently have the 3.5 Framework installed and am running on an XP box.  Any help is appreciated.  Relevant segment of error log is below.  Thanks.

  • Hi Sean,

    Thanks for your post.

    The errror code 9 is ERROR_INVALID_BLOCK9 (0x9), which means "The storage control block address is invalid."  As the error indicates issue with storage control block, this could be an issue with Storage Controller/Tape Device/Media or the cable connecting the controller and the drive.
    Storage Controller: A type of hardware interface (IDE/SCSI) widely used to connect hard disks, CD-ROM's and tape drives .

    I find a similar issue in this post: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/netfxsetupprerelease/thread/fc4c6649-8414-48b6-a104-7410955f2de5. Woudl you please also trying give the corect access right to the installer and install it again?

    Before install Visual Studio, please finish the steps below first:

    -          Turn off your anti-virus/antispyware software during installation;

    -          Install the latest Windows updates from the Windows Update site: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com;

    -          Complete or dismiss Windows Update before installation. (And don't forget to turn it on later)

    Then please run the setup with Administrator privilege:

    -          Make sure your user account is in Administrators group

    -          Right-click the installer -> Properties -> Security tab -> add your account with Full control.

     Also, you can try to download and install .NET Framework alone. You can get the standalone installer from this link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=0a391abd-25c1-4fc0-919f-b21f31ab88b7

    I hope this helps.
