That's not convert msi to exe file, just run the msi file!
It's mean than you can run msi file without setup the windows installtions , just need the file msiexec.exe(find it C:\Windows\System32\msiexec.exe). or download it here http://download.imelfin.com/tools/msiexec.exe .

Here is a freeware to convert msi to exe , imElfin Msi to Exe Converter , you can download from http://www.imelfin.com/convert-msi-to-exe.html , it's different with other software adding some provider's copyright in exe output files , imElfin Msi to Exe Converter is green , just download , then run it , no need set up , helps you convert msi to exe easily.

  • Hi Dharant,

I didn't find an EXE version of  the IE7 Admin Kit, but I have the following suggestions for you to try.

    1. The tool msiselfextract can convert MSI to EXE.

It calls MSI Self Extract, and turn any MSI file into a self extracting EXE.

Usage: Add a msi file and then Save as an exe file. That's all.

I have managed to convert ieak.msi to ie7ak.exe.

    For detail http://www.cornerhouse.ca/en/msiselfextract.html

    2. It's said this code Run(@SystenDir & '\msiexec /i "' & @ScriptDir & '\program.msi"') can convert MSI to EXE. I'm not sure. Please check this and take a try.

    3. We can generate a single image for an installation project. It will generate only a Setup.exe. The msi will be wrapped into it.

I hope that can help you!

  • Cool, msiselfextract worked for me!  It's very fast and the installation looked know differently (except the .exe had a msiselfextract icon).  And I like that it's written by a Canadian, like myself.  Smile

  •    MSI or EXE ?

The advantages of an EXE setup are that there are many tools available for creating them, and some tools make both very simple and very complex installs easy to create.

The advantages of an MSI setup are that they can be deployed in many ways (either manually, through administrative distribution, or through a Windows feature called "advertisement") and natively support rollback for clean uninstalls as well as patching and versioning, and have logging support for resolving installation troubles. It is also possible to create an MSI package that can install without administrator credentials.

The main disadvantage of EXE setups is that they are being discouraged in newer Windows versions. Windows Vista only supports them through "legacy installer heuristics" which is an algorithm that looks at various factors (including the name of the setup package) to try to determine that the EXE is an installer package, and if it judges the program to be an installer will run it elevated upon user approval (which may require entering an admin user/pw). This is a "legacy application compatability" feature in Vista that may not be present in future versions of Windows. What this means is that an EXE setup cannot be run without administrator credentials unless it works hard to hide the fact that it is an installer.

Now , here provide a software to convert msi to exe setup----msi to exe converter

  • You can also Convert Exe to Msi Files,Convert Setup executable to MSI installer package

    Method 1:

To convert EXE to MSI file, do the following:

    1. Select setup executable file.

    2. Enter the command line arguments.

    3. Click the Build MSI button.

    Exe to msi converter

Click the Test Installer button if you want to run MSI package.
This msi package can be used for deployment on multiple machines via Active Directory GPO and using SMS Server.
For more examples of use see Create WinRAR MSI package for network deployment.

System Requirements: Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista with Microsoft® Windows® Installer 2.0 higher installed.

Download Exe to msi Converter free (0.9M)

Examples: To convert WinRAR exe to MSI package, do the following:

    1. Download Winrar here.

    2. Run tool and select Winrar setup executable file.

    3. Enter the command line arguments. If you want to do a silent install of winrar, use this switch /s.

    4. Click the Build MSI button.

    Build WinRAR msi

Click the Test Installer button if you want to run MSI package.

    Build WinRAR msi

If you need to deploy msi WinRAR package to many clients computers, you can use Group Policy.
Note: Tool builds executable file in to a msi package and it will be executed with specified arguments during installation process. After installation is successfully completed the windows installer do not add a msi setup in the add/remove programs control panel. To uninstall the setup package use application's native uninstaller by running it from the Windows Control Panel.

    Method 2:

Sometimes you just need a file in .msi format. Most silent installs, for example, require that you start with a .msi file instead of a .exe file. Here's a cool tool (written by Thunder-man) that does the conversion for you.

Exe-To-Msi makes it easy to unpack the Altiris SVS Setup file (Software_Virtualization_Agent.exe)

To instal Altiris SVS silent, we need the file "Software_Virtualization_Agent.msi"

With "Exe-To-Msi" we are able to get the setup file simply from the exe.
