TF30177 - Team Project Creation Failed on TFS 2010

    Dotaz

  • Hello all,

When trying to create a new team project using either the MSF Agile 5.0 or Scrum templates I now get a TF30177 error.  The logs are below and seem to indicate a failure in the sharepoint creation process.

Note, I can create normal share point sites on this server, just not ones using a TFS template.  We have create sites on this successfully in the past (that was about 6 months ago).

Anybody have an idea on how to troubleshoot/resolve?

  • Thanks Vicky,

I played around with it last night and stumbled across this which seems to have worked.  I am wondering if it is all that different from your solution?

    • Following the link – indicates a problem with sharepoint upgrade
    • Guessing that some form of automated patch onto the system had created the condition
    • The following command showed an issue with sharepoint upgrading itself:

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\BIN>stsadm -o localupgradestatus

    Farm                                           WSS_Config       Cannot Upgrade

    Operation completed successfully.

    • The following command forced the upgrade:

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\BIN>stsa

    dm -o upgrade -inplace -forceupgrade

    Operation completed successfully.

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\BIN>stsa

    dm -o localupgradestatus

    Farm                                           WSS_Config                   OK

     Server                                        PRDWEBTFS                    OK

    Operation completed successfully.

  • Hello StewStremel,

Do you install SharePoint security update MS 11-074 on the SharePoint machine as well? If so, I think that may be the root cause of your error. That is because, if the security patch is installed through Windows Update, it updates the SharePoint binaries on the machine but does not trigger an update on the SharePoint databases. As a result we get a version mismatch between the SharePoint binaries and the SharePoint databases.

And one workaround to deal with it is to run the following commands sequentially with the Administration permissions in the command line:

    cd %commonprogramfiles%\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\bin

    psconfig -cmd secureresources

    psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b

Please take a look at this KB article for further information: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2646294

    Thanks.

  • Hello StewStremel,

First, I am very glad that you found your own solution to resolve your issue.

Second, I am sorry that I am not the SharePoint expert, I can't figrue out you the differences of the commands between yours and mine. The command in my reply is used to upgrade the SharePoint database. And it seems that there is something the same as yours.

    Thanks.
