  • Ok.  Can you please try installing vs sp 1 with another setup.

The following setup includes support for sql server 2008 as well. (PLUS try stopping any antivirus in your machine)

  • Hi mnsgpt,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

Please first refer to this page:

    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=10986

Please read the IMPORTANT instructions there.

    1.        If you previously installed a Visual Studio 2008 Hotfix or Visual Studio 2008 SP1 pre-release, you must run the Service Pack Preparation tool before installing Visual Studio 2008 SP1.
    2.        If you have multiple Visual Studio products installed, you must upgrade all of them to SP1. If you have Visual Studio 2008 and one or more 2008 Express Editions, you cannot upgrade the Express Editions until you have upgraded Visual Studio.
    3.        I suggest you download the readme file to see some known issues.

               For example:

               (1)    Visual Studio 2008 SP1 installation fails when .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 is unable to upgrade .NET Framework 2.0 or .NET Framework 2.0 SP1

If you are sure all requirements are meet and you have read all known issues in VS2008SP1 readme. Please collect some logs with this tool:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=E0DA314F-6216-4A18-BC6B-7D29CF83AF20&displaylang=e&displaylang=en

After you run Collect.exe, you'll find vslogs.cab in your %temp% directory. Please upload vslogs.cab to a public site, like SkyDrive, and post the link here.

    Best regards,

  • Hi mnsgpt, thank you for collecting the log files. How are you installing VS 2008 SP1? Via the web installer? ISO? CD?

I will need your help to collect the logs again as there are old log files that were included in the collection and it would be better if you could get fresh logs again if you don't mind. Please follow the instructions below.

    1. Clear your temporary folder with the steps below:
    - Start > Run > Type %temp% > Delete all the files (there may be some files that cannot be removed; that's ok)
    2. Run the VS 2008 SP1 installer again.
    3. After the installer hits an error, run the Collect Log tool.

Once done, please upload the new vslogs.cab file to SkyDrive and post the public link back here, thank you!

  • Hi mnsgpt,

After checking you logs, I found there are too many old logs, it is hard for me to analyse. So please download this offline pakcage

    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=122095.

Then, please first clear your %temp% folder as systemx mentioned and then install this offline package. After that, if you still encouter this kind of error, please show us fresh logs again.

    Thanks,

I'm doing a follow up here. Have you solved your issue with the off-line package. According to our policy, I will close this case since you haven't got back.

If you are back, I will work on your case again.

  • Hi mnsgpt,

    Welcome back.

I read all your logs but no Visual Studio 2008 SP1 installation log was listed there. If you have tried all the orders like systemx mentioned, the issue appears that the installation is never start. Normally, the reason can be the following:

    1. Your system or files installed on your system do not meet the requirements.

Please have a look at this page http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=10986 to see the requirements.

I suggest you first try this tool to clean the Visual Studio 2008 Hot fix, maybe you have installed them before

        http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=A494B0E0-EB07-4FF1-A21C-A4663E456D9D&displaylang=en

Then please run the web installer from that page again to see if it works.

If still failed. Please try the iso format installer:

        http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=122095

    2. You installation service is corrupt. It can be tested by other programs. So please tell me if you can install any other software.

If the solution still not work, I would suggest you uninstall Visual Studio 2008 completely by refering to this page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms246604(v=vs.90).aspx You should download the Visual Studio 2008 readme to see the product list and uninstall them manually. After that, please install Visual Studo 2008 and Visual Studio 2008 Sp1 again.

If you have any updates, please feel free to let me know.

    Best regards,
