The Windows Developer Preview is provided in the form of three .iso files. Each file allows you to install a different version of the Windows Developer Preview. An .iso file must be downloaded and then turned into installation media for a DVD or a USB flash drive. The file can't simply be copied to media-- it must be converted or unpacked using a tool for converting .iso files. The easiest method is to use Windows Disc Image Burner in Windows 7. To learn how, go to Burn a CD or DVD from an ISO file on the Windows website.
Windows XP and Windows Vista require a third-party program to convert an .iso file into installable media. DVD burning software often includes this capability. The Microsoft Store Online offers a tool for the installation of Windows 7 that can be used to create DVD media on a PC running Windows XP or Windows Vista. It was created to convert the Windows 7 .iso file into either DVD or USB installation media, but it can also be used to convert the Windows Developer Preview .iso files.
At this time, because of differences in the structure of the .iso files, we don’t recommend using this tool to create installation media for a USB flash drive. It should be used only for DVD media creation. For more information, go to Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool on the Microsoft Store website.
Note
The .iso file that contains the developer tools requires a large capacity DVD called a DVD-9, as well as a DVD burner that can handle dual-layer (DL) DVDs. Most modern burners should be able to handle this format.
