Serial ports in metro application

Question

Our company build a medical device that need to be configured using a small computer like PDA or tablet.

Currently we use an HP iPaq with windows CE we use an FTDI USB to serial convertor and a serial port to communicate with the device.

It works on Windows CE, Windows XP and Windows 7.

Because the iPaq is outdated we converted the application to a metro style application and want to use a ARM based tablet to configure our device.

For now there is no support for RS232 communication at all in metro style applications. Is there any chance for it because this is now the only problem we have in porting our application to windows 8 metro (Windows 8 Intel based tablets are big in size and expensive).

This is not possible.  However I will look into this more for your case.  However I currently do not see a solution.
