Custom LookUp field with filtering ability

Question

Hello gurus,

I would like to develop a custom LookUp field that can connect to each other (parent/child relationship). In other terms, a LookUp custom field that has the ability to filter another LookUp field. My concern is the way to get which item is selected in the parent column

Any idea is really appreciated
