Jay4646,
First of all, using paste links is playing with fire. They are the most prone to eventual file corruption. What exactly is your end goal?

John,
You are right paste links is playing with fire . Most of My users are copying duration cell and pasting ascspecial link another duration cell. The basic idea is to link two cell values, if one changed the other cell values replicates.

Jay4646,
If all they want to do is to copy the Duration field into an extra duration field (e.g. Duration1), a simple formula will do the trick and avoid the possible corruption issue. It will update as the Duration changes.
Now back to my question. What is the end goal?

06 Ağustos 2012 Pazartesi 19:43Could you elaborate a little more about the corruption issue? I'm working on a schedule where some of the exact same tasks are located in more than one place (my boss wants the master and sub schedules in the same file). I was thinking of using the paste special so that I wouldn't have to go hunting through 1500 lines to find the 2 or 3 identical tasks to update at the same time. I also figured it would save my behind in case I missed a line at some point. Will paste special work ok within the same file or is there a better way to do this?

SAR5,
By their nature paste links are prone to corruption. The exact reason why, I don't know. And it doesn't matter if the paste links are within a given file or between files or even applications (e.g. Project links to Excel).
Define what you boss calls a "master". You should not have identical tasks replicated in a file. There are much better and simpler ways to isolate selected tasks for reports and reviews. Filtering is one way, grouping is another.
If you really want to "save your behind", I suggest you do not use paste links. They will work but using them requires an extreme amount of user and file discipline - something most users are not set up to manage.
