Is Axum still alive?

07 Kasım 2011 Pazartesi 23:41Given that the last forum post here is 1 month old, I just wanted to ask: is Axum still alive as a language? Is it currently being developed? Will it be in vNext?

17 Kasım 2011 Perşembe 15:00No, it was killed off about a year ago. I expect some of its ideas will resurface elsewhere. E.g., TPL Dataflow contains some Axum ideas I believe.

Well, Axum is still in DevLabs and an incubation project at Microsoft. We don't exactly know much about what Microsoft is doing with it, but they may be integrating it into VS 2012, or giving it a different name and working on it as a project. The developers on the Axum team might be working on it right now as I speak, or they may be discussing its future. I am personally interested in Axum and hope that it continues.

Also, Microsoft projects don't depend on forum posts. Anyone who wants an answer to a particular question (regarding Axum) will look here, and chances are that it has already been asked and/or answered.

My semi-mistake. Microsoft has halted, so it seems, the Axum project and there is currently no paid developers working on Axum. However, Microsoft still might introduce it in Visual Studio 11 or might be using it elsewhere in a different project. Or, they could be integrating it into F# or other CLR languages. But that's the fun of the forums and asking questions about these kinds of things, right? The mystery; it makes it fun! :)

As I indicated above look at TPL Dataflow for a continuation of Axum ideas.
From the ReadMe...
"TDF [TPL Dataflow] can be thought of as a logical evolution of the CCR for non-robotics scenarios, incorporating CCR’s key concepts into TPL and augmenting the enhanced model with core programming model aspects of the Asynchronous Agents Library as well as from the Axum language."

C# and VB.Net are going to have asynchronous (async) capabilities built right into their syntax, so Axum features are definitely something that Microsoft is going to continue in other existing languages.
