I am installing sqlserver 2008 standard edition 64 bit on windows 2008 server 64 bit.i am not doing slipstream.its ust regular instlaltion.

Possibly the installation files are corrupted, can you recopy them and try again.

Are you running a slip stream install

I uninstalled couple of times and deleted sqlserver from registry and rebooted the server.Still getting the same messeage.I will try by copying the software again and install.

Hi Ronsql,

Regarding to the error might be caused by the previous SQL Server installation. I suggest you uninstall the existing SQL Server instance by the following steps. You could refer to this Blog.

Meanwhile some other programs may prevent installation program from starting the service. I would like to recommend that you stop all other programs temporarily, especially Anti-Virus program.

Moreover please do not copy installation files, try to install from the original installation media.

For more investigation, please post the SQL error log for further troubleshooting.
