"Excel Error" when opening Management Dashboard

Question

We installed two environments for a customer (dev and prod) and we’re getting the same error on both. Both are identical with a single server farm running SP2010 with the February CU. Databases are on SQL Server 2012 on a separate server.  PowerPivot installed and configured properly on both and PowerPivot workbooks deployed to a gallery in a site collection work fine.

The problem is with the PowerPivot Management Dashboard in CA. All Excel-based views receive pop-up from Excel indicating that "An error has occurred. Please try again."

This happens opening any PowerPivot-based Excel workbook (I tried uploading others to the workbook library on the CA site). The dashboard workbooks open fine if I download them.

Any help would be appreciated!

The issue ended up being that the Excel Services service account didn’t have access to the content database for the Central Admin.

This KB article had the solution: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981293 (provided to me by a support engineer at Microsoft).

You just need to make sure to enter the URL for Central Admin site in the first PowerShell command.
