how to upgrade from sql 2000 to 2008 from windows to vmware

Hi friends,

we are planning to upgrade from sql server 2000 2005 on windows to 2008 on vm ware, so any one have any steps i need to follow or any documentation please? please provide some steps

Permit me to suggest you to skip SQL Server 2008 and perform upgrading to SQL Server 2012 ..newest version.

Hmm I am not specialized in that area :-)) But I think there is no direct upgrade, I mean you need to create VM environment and move all database over there... Try searching on google..

Hi,

Be aware that SQL 2012 was released a few weeks ago, it's a fresh product with no Service Packs yet.

On the other hand, SQL 2008 R2 is a more mature product (SP1 is available).

Please note that you can't upgrade directly from SQL 2000 to SQL 2012, you should be running SQL 2005 or newer to upgrade to SQL 2012.
