SQL 2008 Query

Question

Recently converted from SQL2005 server to SQL2008 server.  In SQL2008 server queries require square brackets where SQL2005 did not.  Any ideas why or if something can be changed to not require the square brackets?  It certainly adds more keystrokes to any code.

Hi Dan,

It is probably because more reserved key words were added in SQL Server 2008 that didn't exist in SQL Server 2005 as key words. You can check the list of reserved key words here for each version - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189822(v=sql.100).aspx
