Silverlight เป็น subset ของ WPF และฟังก์ชั่นส่วนใหญ่ของ Silverlight ก็อยู่ใน WPF ด้วยเหมือนกัน
โดย WPF จะใช้กับ desktop application เป็นหลัก แต่การใช้ Silverlight จะใช้กับ rich internet application
ซึ่ง WF,WPF และ Silverlight จะใช้ XAML ที่มีวัตถุประสงค์ที่แตกต่างกันไป
